Do you think women deserve a place in history? If you are reading this post on Wellesley Underground, we all know this is a rhetorical question.
Rhetorical questions aside, I am writing to ask you for your support in a matter that should really be a no brainer for every American. I just launched a petition on Change.org as part of my work at the National Women’s History Museum (NWHM). The petition urges Congress to pass the Museum’s proposed legislation, and finally give women’s history a home on the National Mall. We have a museum devoted to stamps, but not one devoted to showcasing the rich history of women in this country. Yup, you read that right.
NWHM has petitioned Congress for a permanent home on or near the National Mall, offering to build the Museum with private monies - not at taxpayer’s expense - for the last nine years, yet our efforts continue to be blocked. We need to get this important issue back on their radar, and hope that getting at least 25,000 signatures by the election will get their attention.
I would greatly appreciate it if you could take just a few minutes out of your day to sign our petition, and then send it out to your network via email, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or any other social media venue you use.
If you have any questions or want to get more involved with the NWHM don’t hesitate to reach out to me! Thanks in advance!
Your Wellesley Sibling,
